RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces (22-14) stunned the New Orleans Baby Cakes (12-23) in the ninth inning of game three on Saturday night with a six-run comeback to tie the game and walked off in the 12th on a two-out wild pitch. Christian Walker completed the third cycle in Aces franchise history and finished with a 4-for-6 night with five RBI.
After four multi-run innings throughout the first nine innings of the contest, New Orleans had a commanding 10-4 lead over the Aces. In the bottom of the ninth, five walks and a pair of singles by Walker and Reymond Fuentes (2-for-4) over three total Baby Cakes relievers gave the Aces six runs to tie the ballgame at 10-10.
In the Aces 11th, Walker knocked a lead-off double into the left-center gap to complete the feat after hitting a triple in the first to plate the first run of the game, a two-run home run in the fifth and a two RBI single in the bottom of the ninth.
After a 1-2-3 inning by Aces reliever Erik Davis in the 12th, Ildemaro Vargas (1-for-6) clubbed his first hit of the night, a clutch one-out double down the left field line, to bring the game to within a base hit. After Ketel Marte went down swinging to record the second out, Zach Borenstein took a swing at a 1-1 wild pitch that skipped all the way back into the backstop, giving Vargas enough room to swing around the baseline from second base and walk off the game after four hours and thirty six minutes of play.
Davis (3-0) collected his third win as Baby Cakes Victor Payano (0-1) took his first loss. Six pitchers were used on each side with 18 walks and 22 strikeouts total in the contest.
The comeback victory marks the Aces third big late comeback for the month of May. Reno came back against Sacramento on May 7 with five runs in the eighth, and again, on May 8 with six runs in the top of the ninth, which included a two-out, two-strike grand slam by Walker.
