Brett Butler accepts position with Marlins

October 11, 2013

For Immediate Release

Oct. 11, 2013

RENO, Nev.-Brett Butler, manager of the Reno Aces since the team's inception in 2009, has accepted a Major League job with the Miami Marlins, and will not return to Reno for the club's sixth season, the Aces announced today.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are actively working toward filling Butler's position, and the information will be announced by the Aces once it becomes available.

In his new position, Butler will serve as third base coach and outfield coach. He will also serve as the club's baserunning and bunting instructor.

The 2013 season marked Butler's ninth in the Arizona organization and his eighth as a manager in the D-backs chain. He previously served as a first base coach for a Bob Melvin-led D-backs squad that finished second in the National League West in 2005. In Baseball America's 2011 "Best Tools" issue, Butler was tabbed as the PCL's Best Managerial Prospect.

Butler guided the Aces to a 366-352 (.510) record in his five seasons with the club. After guiding Reno to its first-ever Pacific Coast League playoff appearance in 2011, he skippered the 2012 PCL Championship and Triple-A National Championship Aces squad. Last summer, Butler managed the PCL team in the Triple-A All-Star Game, held at Aces Ballpark.

A veteran of 17 Major League seasons, Butler helped lead the San Francisco Giants to the 1989 National League pennant, and later he was a National League All-Star in 1991 as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Brett Butler thanks the fans following the 2011 regular season, which brought the first Divisional Championship to Reno.
