Shipley Tosses Eight Shutout, Aces Win Second Straight

RENO, Nev. - Braden Shipley (4-1) led the way to Reno's first shutout of 2017 after tossing eight scoreless innings while giving up just three hits. The Aces (24-15) collected at least one run in all but two innings in their 9-0 victory Tuesday night against the Round Rock Express at Greater Nevada Field.<o:p>
Shipley, in his seventh Triple-A start Tuesday night, recorded his longest outing of the season so far and tied his longest in career start innings. Even more impressive, in his last start against the Express last season on May 28, the right-hander tossed his last complete game with eight innings on the road, but got the loss after the Express broke the 3-3 tie in the eighth inning. <o:p>

The Aces put together five consecutive innings of runs - one in the first, two in the second, one in the third and fourth, and three in the fifth - before going scoreless in the sixth and seventh. In the eighth, Reno tacked on their final run. <o:p>
Ronnie Freeman and Jeremy Hazelbaker highlighted the night offensively. Freeman recorded his first three-hit game of the season, finishing the night 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI. Hazelbaker went 2-for-5 with a triple, home rujeremy hazelbakern and three RBI, improving his average to .382 over nine total games with the Aces. <o:p>
Ketel Marte extended his hitting streak and set a new career high at 16 games after knocking his first home run of the season in the first inning. <o:p>
Jake Barrett made his second Aces appearance this season with three straight groundouts in the ninth inning. The Aces are currently one game back of Tacoma in the Pacific Northern division. <o:p>
The Aces eight game homestand continues tomorrow, May 17 with the game three of the four-game series against the Round Rock Express at Greater Nevada Field.
