Turning Point
In the third inning of Game 1 against Akron right-hander Evan Mitchell (0-1), the Curve loaded the bases with a walk, error and intentional walk before designated hitter Logan Hill broke a scoreless tie with a three-run triple to right-center field. In the sixth inning of Game 2, Altoona right fielder Bralin Jackson hit a leadoff single against right-hander Jared Robinson (0-1) for his team's first hit and went to second base on shortstop Alredo Reyes' sacrifice. Center fielder Jared Oliva hit a game-tying double to right-center field and went to third base on center fielder Ka'ai Tom 's throwing error. Second baseman Mitchell Tolman then hit a go-ahead RBI single to right field for a 2-1 Curve lead.
Mound Presence
Making his first Eastern League start in Game 1, Mitchell pitched two scoreless innings before allowing three runs in the third. He allowed three runs - two earned - in three innings. Left-hander Ben Krauth allowed three more runs while recording one out in the fourth, and left-hander Rob Kaminsky pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings. In Game 2, left-hander David Speer pitched four hitless innings, allowing only a two-out walk in the fourth inning. Robinson struck out the side in the fifth inning before allowing the deciding runs in the sixth.
Duck Tales
The RubberDucks did not get a runner to third base against Robles in Game 1. They took the lead in the third inning of Game 2 against right-hander James Marvel (5-5), as third baseman Alexis Pantoja hit a leadoff single to left field, and left fielder Mitch Longo hit an RBI double to center field. In the seventh inning, second baseman Tyler Friis hit a leadoff single, and Longo hit a one-out double. With the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position, shortstop Ernie Clement grounded out, Marvel walked Tom, and left-hander Blake Weiman struck out first baseman Wilson Garcia for the save.
