Summary

Despite loading the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning, the RubberDucks were not able to overcome four unanswered runs from the Bowie Baysox on the Fourth of July, dropping the series finale, 5-4.

Turning Point

After Robert Neustrom turned the tides in Bowie’s favor with his eighth inning two-run home run, Kyle Stowers delivered the knock out punch in the top of the ninth inning with a solo home run off Nick Mikolajchak to give the Baysox the final 5-4 lead.

Mound Presence

Tanner Tully once again took the ball for Akron on the Fourth of July holiday, and looked as sharp as he has all season, delivering five terrific innings, allowing only three hits and a first-inning unearned run while striking out seven Baysox and not issuing a single walk. However, despite the solid start from Tanner Tully, the RubberDucks bullpen could not hold onto the lead against the potent Bowie lineup, surrendering four runs from the seventh inning on, thanks to a two-run shot from Robert Neustrom in the eighth inning off Dakody Clemmer and a solo shot from Kyle Stowers off Nick Mikolajchak in the ninth.

Duck Tales

The offense from the RubberDucks tonight centered around the top half of the lineup for Manager Rouglas Odor, with leadoff batter Will Benson posting a sparkling 3-for-5 and falling just short of a triple to complete the cycle. His strong night tallies his 10th multi-hit game of the season, and the third time has collected three back knocks in a game. Despite losing his 17-game hitting streak last night against the Baysox, Oscar Gonzalez got the home team started with a jolt in the bottom of the first when he crushed a two-run homer 450 ft (108 mph exit velocity) over the batter’s eye in dead center field to give Akron the early 2-1 lead. The Ducks would add a tally in both in the bottom of the fifth inning and in the bottom of the seventh innings when Will Benson played long ball himself, turning around a 97 mph fastball into a 404 foot home run (101 exit velocity) into the seats in right field.

On the Pond

The RubberDucks will have an off day tomorrow before hitting the road to begin another 12-game road trip from July 6-July 18 as they take on the Altoona Curve followed by the Harrisburg Senators. Tuesday’s game broadcast, powered by FirstEnergy, is on 640 WHLO, the WHLO iHeartRadio channel, and the TuneIn Radio App, and available on MiLB.TV.
