Krieger's 8th-inning homer gives Ducks 4-3 win

Tyler Krieger smashed a go-ahead two-run home run in the eighth inning to propel the RubberDucks past the Flying Squirrels 4-3, Thursday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point<o:p>
Trailing 3-2 in the eighth, Akron's Mike Papi doubled off the right-center wall followed by a go-ahead home run to right field by Tyler Krieger to put the Ducks up 4-3.

Winging It
Making his second start of the season with Akron, lefty Tanner Tully worked 5.2 innings allowing three runs on three hits. Tully ran into trouble in the fourth inning giving up a solo home run to former Cleveland Indian Jerry Sands followed by four consecutive singles that scored one run. Richmond starter Tyler Herb went six innings allowing two runs on four hits and striking out five. Herb got into a bases loaded jam in the sixth but worked out of it to complete his outing. Jordan Milbrath entered in the seventh in relief and worked 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball giving up no hits and striking out one. Leandro Linares picked up his second save of the season in the ninth. Linares made things interesting walking two Richmond batters but struck out two and completed the save opportunity.

Duck Tales<o:p>
Tyler Krieger hit an RBI single scoring Yu Chang to get the Ducks on board in the second inning. In the fifth, Joe Sever belted a solo home run off the batters eye in dead center to cut the Richmond lead to 3-2. The Ducks then loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth but could not score. Krieger delivered again for the Ducks by hitting the go-ahead homer in the eighth. Krieger was 2-4 with three RBI on the night. Outfielder Mike Papi was 2-4 with a double and single. Papi is now hitting .444 (8-18) in his last five games.

Notebook<o:p>
Greg Allen who recently returned from the DL had a scheduled off day on Thursday. However, he entered as a defensive substitution in the ninth inning… Prior to Thursday night's game, reliever Robbie Aviles was received from Columbus and Dominic DeMasi was transferred to Lynchburg…  Akron is now back to .500 at 47-47 on the season… Time of Game: 2:41… Attendance: 5,023. <o:p>

Akron and Richmond will continue their four game series on Friday with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Southpaw Luis Lugo (4-6, 5.42) will take the mound for the RubberDucks against the Flying Squirrels Sam Coonrod (3-8, 4.29).
