Summary

The Akron RubberDucks used a 2-inning rally in the seventh and eighth, 3 hits from Steven Kwan and a 5-out save from Juan Moto late to preserve a 5-3 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels, their third straight victory and 41st of the season.

Turning Point

With the game tied 3-3 and 2 outs in the bottom of the seventh, Chris Roller hit a double into the gap in left center that put him in scoring position. Daniel Schneeman would come up after him and hit a line drive into right that allowed Roller to race around third and score. Steven Kwan would add another run in the eighth inning that extended the lead to 5-3. With a 2-run lead in the ninth, Juan Mota closed the door in the ninth to preserve the win.

Mound Presence

Making his 9th start of the season, Tanner Tully would be on the mound for Akron. A lot of five’s tonight for Tully as he went five innings, giving up one run on five hits and struck out five batters. Dakody Clemmer came in during the 6th to relieve Tully. Clemmer would go one inning for the Ducks and strike out 2 batters while walking one. Coming in for Clemmer would be Jake Miednik. Miednik would last 1.1 innings, and would surrender 2 runs on 2 hits, while striking out four. The fourth and final pitcher for Akron in the game was Juan Mota. Mota was dominant in getting a 5-out save to end the game, giving up no hits in 1.2 innings of work.

Duck Tales

The Flying Squirrels would threaten in the first inning by loading the bases, but onky managed to push across one run courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Diego Rincones.

The lead would not last for long as Andruw Monasterio hit one deep to right that just missed being a home run, but still was able to turn it into a game tying rbi triple, his third of the season. Akron would gain their first lead of the game in the bottom of the second as Clark Scolamiero hit a 2-run home run into the bullpen in right to make it 3-1 for the Ducks.

The game would remain 3-1 until the top half of the seventh. With a man on, Frankie Tostado got a hold of one and hit it on top of the Tiki Terrace in right field to tie the game at 3.

Akron would respond in the bottom half of the seventh thanks to a rbi-single by Daniel Schneeman that gave the Ducks the lead right back 4-3. The lead would be extended in the eighth when Steven Kwan added his third hit of the game, a rbi single that scored Ike Freeman.

Notebook

Clark Scolamiero picked up his first hit and home run with the RubberDucks in the second inning when he hit a 2-run homer off of Trenton Toplikar. Steven Kwan had a triple and two singles in the game, giving him a hit in 11 out of his last 12 games. Time of Game: 3:03 … Attendance: 6,718
