Summary

The Akron RubberDucks used a six-run sixth inning to defeat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 9-7 on Friday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

After the Fisher Cats tied the game in the top of the sixth, the Akron RubberDucks answered back in the bottom half when Julian Escobedo launched a two-run home run to give Akron a 5-3 lead. After an Ike Freeman walk and a Jonathan Engelmann double, Daniel Schneemann hit an RBI single to make the score 5-3 Akron. After a wild pitch increased the lead to 7-3, Brayan Rocchio hits a two-run double to further the lead to 9-3.

Mound Presence

Xzavion Curry got the start for the RubberDucks and was dominant only allowing two hits through the first four innings. Curry battled through the middle innings to finish the night with 6.2 innings allowing four runs (three earned) while striking out five. Brett Daniels tossed for 1.1 innings, giving up a single hit and no runs. Jerson Ramirez followed with an inning allowing three runs.

Duck Tales

After 3 scoreless innings, Chris Roller started the scoring in the fourth with an RBI double into left field, bringing Jose Tena home from second. Freeman then followed with a two-RBI double in almost the same spot on the wall to make it 3-0 Akron.

Notebook

Curry’s start was the longest by a RubberDucks pitcher this season…Tena recorded his 50th hit, leading the team and giving him fourth most in the Eastern League…Naylor stole his eighth base on the year leading the team…Naylor was walked for the 28th time leading the team and tied for fifth in the Eastern League…Game Time: 2:52…Attendance: 5,694.
