(AKRON, OHIO) July 9, 2018 - The Akron RubberDucks are Akron's flagship professional sports team. As such, the organization is honored to be a key part of what makes Akron great. However, when it comes to the city of Akron and greatness, LeBron James reigns supreme. To honor "King James," the RubberDucks are hosting LeBron James Celebration at Canal Park July 23 when the team faces the Altoona Curve at 7:05 p.m.

Even though James has taken his basketball talents to Los Angeles, Akron will always be his home. The RubberDucks, located in the heart of downtown Akron on King James Way, felt it appropriate for James' hometown team to ensure his legacy by being the first team to retire his number 23, which will appear on Canal Park's outfield wall.

"LeBron James' greatness on the basketball court is unquestioned, but his commitment to his hometown of Akron is what really makes him a 'legend'," said RubberDucks General Manager Jim Pfander. "We felt there was no better way to honor someone who has had such a positive impact than retiring his number in Canal Park for fans to see for generations."

To honor James taking the Cleveland Cavaliers to five NBA Finals appearances, from now until July 23 fans can buy $5 tickets by purchasing in-person at the Canal Park Box Office wearing a James' t-shirt or jersey. For each walk-up ticket purchased, the RubberDucks will donate $1 to the LeBron James Family Foundation. On non-gamedays, the Box Office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On gamedays, it is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. through the end of the game, and Sundays it opens at 11 a.m. through game's end.

LeBron James Celebration will also feature the introduction of the G.O.A.T. Burger. The half-pound burger will have two steak burger patties, topped with whipped goat cheese, apple cider bacon jam, frizzled onions, and blackberry barbeque sauce. It will sell for $12 at the Taters concession stand. The team will also sell its famous giant ice cream sundae, The Screamer, for a special $23. The Screamer is made up of 21 scoops of premium ice cream on top of a brownie base and finished off with chocolate syrup, bananas, whip cream, sprinkles and maraschino cherries.

The celebration will have James-related promotions, such as career highlights on the video board, the return of "chalk cam" in the stands, and special LeBron James Celebration t-shirt will be available in the team shop. Additional details will be announced.

The Akron RubberDucks are the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. The 2018 season, powered by FirstEnergy, will be the franchise's 22nd since moving to Akron.
