Topes Dropped 5-2 By River Cats' Late Rally
NEED TO KNOW: A combined three runs in the final three frames by the Sacramento River Cats (20-18) dropped the Albuquerque Isotopes (15-23) 5-2 in a Sunday afternoon matinee at Isotopes Park. Matt McBride went 2-for-4, extending his multi-hit streak to five games.
THE TURNING POINT: Neither team could gain an advantage through the first two-thirdS of Sunday's game. Sacramento scored in the first after a leadoff single, but Albuquerque answered with a solo homer from Kyle Parker in the second. After a one-out walk came around to score for the Rivers Cats in the fifth, the Isotopes responded with another solo home run, this one by Dustin Garneau, in the sixth. The tie game didn't last long though as Sacramento used a one-out, two-run long ball from Adam Duvall in the seventh to put the game away. The River Cats added another run in the eighth for good measure.
PARKER PARKED IT: Left fielder Kyle Parker smashed a leadoff home run in the second inning to extend his hitting streak to six games and finished Sunday 1-for-3. During his streak, Parker is 9-for-24 with two doubles, two homers, and three RBI.
MR. McBRIDE: The hottest Isotopes hitter of late has been first baseman Matt McBride, and he continued his good work on Sunday. He turned in a 2-for-4 afternoon with a double, a home run, a run scored and an RBI. He now has five straight multi-hit games. Since Wednesday, McBride is 12-for-20 with seven runs scored, three doubles, three home runs, six RBI and a walk. He also has hits in nine of his last 10 games.
BASEBALL CARD TEAM SET ON MONDAY: This first 3,000 fans to Monday's game will receive the Isotopes 2015 baseball card team set.
ON DECK: The Isotopes and River Cats will play game three of their four-game series Monday night at 6:35 p.m. Left-hander Tyler Matzek (0-1, 63.00) will make his second start for Albuquerque, while left Ty Blach (3-3, 3.40) is scheduled to start for Sacramento.
IN THE HOLE: Following this eight-game homestand against Fresno and Sacramento, the Isotopes will hit the road, visiting the Round Rock Express and New Orleans Zephyrs. This homestand wraps up a stretch of 16 out of 20 games at home.
