Isotopes Announce 2016 Players' Choice Awards

August 28, 2016

MOST COMMUNITY-MINDED PLAYER: The Isotopes are very much apart of the Albuquerque community and players often make several appearances at hospitals, schools, libraries, and other special events throughout the year. This season, Tim Smalling was voted by the Isotopes Front Office as the Most Community-Minded Player for his contributions to the community throughout the season.

FAN FAVORITE PLAYER: Throughout the season, fans at Isotopes Park voted on their favorite and most popular player. This season, Chris Nelson has won the Fan Favorite Award.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Utilizing his speed, glove, and arm while roaming the PCL outfields, Mike Tauchman was as solid as they come defensively for the Isotopes. For these reasons, he was voted by his teammates as the Defensive Player of the Year.

MR. HUSTLE: The 2016 Mr. Hustle Award goes to Stephen Cardullo, who always left it all on the field…and the batting cages…and the weight room. Setting an example for his teammates, who voted him the award winner, Cardullo never took a day for granted and played the game the right way each and every day, earning him a promotion to the Colorado Rockies.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Since his first Triple-A start in April when he recorded six shutout innings in Tacoma, Jeff Hoffman became the anchor of the Isotopes rotation. Despite his promotion to Colorado, Hoffman's 124 strikeouts still rank second in the PCL and are the fifth-most strikeouts by an Isotopes pitcher in a single season. Hoffman also represented the Rockies in the SiriusXM Future's Game as a member of Team USA.

POWER HITTER OF THE YEAR: After mashing a team-high 19 home runs this season, Tom Murphy was voted Power Hitter of the Year by his teammates. His .669 slugging percentage is also tops on the team among players with at least 100 at-bats. Since July 1, Murphy has recorded 12 home runs and has slugged .902.

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER: It is only fitting that the Isotopes lone PCL All-Star is recognized as the team's most valuable player throughout the season. Jordan Patterson's outstanding play all year has earned him this honor as voted by his teammates. The 24-year-old outfielder is currently hitting .300 (117-for-390) with 13 home runs, 59 RBI, and has stolen 10 bases without being caught.
