Isotopes Drop Series Finale, 8-1

Salt Lake City, UT – The Isotopes led, 1-0, going into the bottom of the fifth then allowed eight unanswered runs to the Bees as Salt Lake took the series finale, 8-1 Sunday afternoon at Smith’s Ballpark.

The Bees won the series, 4-2.

Offensively, the Isotopes managed just six hits, one double and one triple. Tim Lopes led the way with two hits, including the triple, and the lone RBI. Coco Montes scored the only run for the away team, he also tallied a double.

After four innings of zeroes, Albuquerque (18-24) plated the first run of the game in the fifth to take a 1-0 lead. Montes leadoff with a double and came around to score two batters later on Lopes’ RBI triple. But the lead was short lived. The Bees’ Jo Adell tied it up in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single to center.

Salt Lake took the lead, 3-1, in the sixth on a David McKinnon two-run blast. They added five to their lead, 8-1, in the seventh frame.

Peter Lambert made his second rehab start and tossed 2.0 innings with two punchouts. Riley Smith piggybacked Lambert and was charged with the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, over 4.1 frames.

Topes Scope: - The Isotopes are now 1-3-3 over seven series on the year.

-They are also 4-3 in series finales and 2-2 on the road.

-The Topes were outscored, 38-25, in the six-game series.

-The Topes have been held to three runs or fewer in eight of their last 16 games.

-Lambert completed 2.0 innings for the first time since Sept. 29, 2021, with Colorado against Washington.

-Montes tallied his third double in four games and fifth in May.

-Lopes registered his second triple of the year, and first since April 14, 2022, against Tacoma. He also tallied an RBI in back-to-back games for the third time this year.

-Lopes also recorded his 12th multi-hit effort on the year, second-most on the team.

-Salt Lake’s starters threw at least 6.0 innings in back-to-back games, the first time an opponent has eclipsed the mark in 2022.

-Reagan Todd’s scoreless inning streak was snapped at 5.2 innings.

On Deck: The series finales against the Bees is set for 1:05 pm MT. Riley Smith is expected to take the mound for the Isotopes while Davis Daniel is slated to start for Salt Lake.
