Frisco, Texas - Amarillo's offense was quieted on Thursday night, falling to the Frisco RoughRiders 3-1 in the opener of a four-game series at Dr. Pepper Ballpark.

The Sod Poodles were held to just two hits, matching a season low.
Right-hander Jesse Scholtens was solid in his start for Amarillo, tossing five scoreless frames to begin the ballgame.
In the sixth, Scholtens ran into trouble. He allowed a leadoff single to Ryan Dorow, who would eventually score on Leody Taveras' sac fly. Two wild pitches later in the inning brought in a pair of runs as Frisco jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
Frisco's pitching shined on Thursday night. Richelson Peña tossed three scoreless frames in his start, which was followed by five straight scoreless innings of relief. Blake Bass tossed three innings, bridging the game to the ninth.
In the ninth, catcher A.J. Kennedy belted his first home run in a Sod Poodles uniform off righty Jake Lemoine. Kennedy's blast made it a 3-1 game. Lemoine bounced back to escape further trouble in the frame and pick up his third save.
A bright spot for the Sod Poodles was reliever Blake Rogers, who went 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to keep the Sod Poodles with three runs.
The Sod Poodles and RoughRiders continue their series on Friday night. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. as Lake Bachar takes the hill for Amarillo and Frisco sends righty Collin Wiles to the mound.
