Barons Win 4-3 in 11 Innings over the Lookouts on Tuesday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn -- The Birmingham Barons won 4-3 in 11 innings over the Chattanooga Lookouts before 2,723 at Erlanger Park on Tuesday night. The Lookouts had a chance to win in the bottom of the 10th inning when a ball was hit to left field, and the Barons threw out the Lookouts runner for an inning-ending double play.
Starting pitcher Lucas Gordon pitched 2.2. innings, giving up one hit, one earned run, and two walks with four strikeouts. Jake Palisch pitched four innings, giving up six hits, two earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts. Morris Austin pitched 1.1 innings and gave up only a walk. Jonathan Clark (7-1, 3.29) gets the win, going two innings and giving up just two walks with four strikeouts. Jackson Kelley got his seventh save, pitching one inning and giving up two walks with three strikeouts.
Birmingham (21-25, 47-68) scored in the top of the third inning. Samuel Zavala led off with a solo home run to right field, his 12th of the season. Dylan Campbell doubled, and Alec Briley walked. Anthony DePino singled on a line drive to center field, scoring Campbell, and the Barons led 2-0.
In the bottom of the third inning, Johnny Ascanio walked and was moved to second base on a ground out. Carter Graham singled to left field, scoring Ascanio. The Lookouts trailed 2-1.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Pablo Aliendo hit a solo home run to right field. An RBI single by Kien Vu scored Carlos Sanches, and the Lookouts took the 3-2 lead.
In the top of the eighth inning, Campbell hit a solo home run to right field, his fourth of the season with the Barons. The game was tied at 3-3.
In the top of the 11th inning, Jordan Sprinke started the inning at second base. Colby Shelton grounded out, but moved Sprinkle to third base. Ryan Burrowes hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Sprinkle, and the Barons led 4-3.
In the bottom of the 11th inning with the Barons leading 4-3, Kelley struck out all three Lookouts, and the Barons took Game 1 of the six-game series.
