Red Sox No. 4 prospect Franklin Arias, an infielder for High-A Greenville, REALLY didn’t want to let visiting Asheville score any runs in the top of the eighth inning on Friday night.
With runners on first and second base in the bottom of the fourth, Arias showed he apparently held a grudge against the scoreboard on the left-field wall at Greenville’s Fluor Field.
The Fenway Park-esque manual scoreboard was no match for MLB's No. 71 prospect, who ripped a line drive to left that went directly through the panel representing Asheville’s half of the eighth. For those scoring the game themselves (which was probably advisable after Arias caused some damage), it goes down as an RBI ground-rule double.
For the 19-year-old Arias -- Boston’s top prospect behind the “Big 3” of Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer -- it was his first hit with Greenville after being promoted from Single-A Salem on Tuesday. And what a memorable first hit it was.
