DAYTON, Ohio -- The Dayton Dragons will honor the Dayton Daily News and award-winning editorial staff as part of the Celebrate Dayton program during the Dragons game on Wednesday, August 20 against the Peoria Chiefs at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
Dayton is home to incredible people who achieve incredible things each and every day. The Dayton Dragons Celebrate Dayton program recognizes the accomplishments of individuals and groups from the Miami Valley.
Journalists from the Dayton Daily News won several statewide awards for stellar work covering local issues in our region.
The Ohio Society of Professional Journalists awarded Eileen McClory with Best Children’s and Education Issues Reporting. Community Impact Editor Nick Hrkman took home first prize for Best Editorial and Criticism writing. Associated Press Media and Editors Awards recognized Jessica Orozco as Best News Writer for her in-depth coverage of the Haitian community and their stories in Springfield, Ohio.
The Ohio Society of Professional Journalists also named daytondailynews.com as Best Website in the state. Other Dayton Daily News staff were additionally recognized for their critical work in the community.
To honor and highlight the importance of these awards to the Dayton community, the Dragons Celebrate Dayton program will recognize Eileen McClory, Nick Hrkman, Jessica Orozco, and the Dayton Daily News with an award during a special in-game presentation on Wednesday, August 20.
