Zavala launches three home runs but Missions win barnburner

FRISCO, Texas (August 27, 2025) – Aaron Zavala collected four hits, three of them for home runs, and Marcus Smith recorded an inside-the-park home run, but the San Antonio Missions outpaced the Frisco RoughRiders 14-11 on Wednesday night from Riders Field.
Frisco (25-28, 63-58) racked up 17 hits, but the Missions (20-33, 59-63) totaled seven home runs, including four homers in the seventh inning.
Zavala singled and scored the go-ahead run in the first inning, hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the second, walked in the fifth, and homered in his final two at bats. All three of his home runs went opposite field to left.
Smith notched his inside-the-park home run on a line drive up the first base line in the sixth inning, scoring Julian Brock.
Zavala hit his second home run on the very next pitch to score the sixth run of the inning and provide Frisco a 10-6 lead. San Antonio plated eight runs in the next half inning to take the lead for good.
Sebastian Walcott and Luis Mieses both collected three hits, while Julian Brock and Marcus Smith added two hits of their own. Walcott and Biggers both had doubles.
The RoughRiders left two runners on base in each of the first six innings, leaving 13 on base for the game. Frisco held leads of one, three, and four runs, but San Antonio wiped out each lead the half inning after conceding them.
For San Antonio, Marcos Castañon and Braedon Karpathios both hit two home runs. Castañon's homers tied the game in the second and seventh innings.
José Geraldo (3-2) earned the win, allowing two runs over two innings. Larson Kindreich (5-3) took the loss, giving up four runs in 1.2 innings.
Stephen Jones recorded the final four outs of the game without a run allowed, collecting his first save.
Notes to know
-Zavala notched the second three-homer game by a RoughRiders batter in the last nine days, after Cam Cauley hit three homers in Corpus Christi on Aug. 19. Zavala was in the on deck circle for those three homers.
-Smith's inside-the-park home run is the first by a Frisco hitter since Dustin Harris had one in 2022.
The RoughRiders meet with the San Antonio Missions (Padres affiliate) at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, August 28th for game three of the six-game series. RHP David Davalillo (2-3, 2.30) starts for the Riders against LHP Jagger Haynes (3-3, 4.35).
