I-Cubs Get Swept in Doubleheader Against Syracuse

DES MOINES, IA. – The Iowa Cubs were swept in Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Syracuse Mets with a score of 3-2 in the first game, then 4-2 in game two.
GAME ONE: FINAL/7 - SYRACUSE 3, IOWA 2
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Mets jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the I-Cubs in the first four innings off of right-hander Connor Noland. Noland wrapped his day up with just allowing one earned run and earned his fourth quality start of the season.
Dixon Machado grounded out into a double play but was able to score Kevin Alcantara as the lead was just two in favor of Syracuse 3-1.
The I-Cubs added another run off of a Moises Ballesteros solo shot to right field, his fifth homer of the season with Iowa, as the lead was cut down to 3-2.
That was all the I-Cubs could muster together as Christian Franklin ripped a triple into right field and was just 90 feet away from scoring the game-tying run. But, Carlos Perez grounded out to shortstop and dropped the first game.
GAME TWO: FINAL/7 - SYRACUSE 4, IOWA 2
Heading into game two, Ben Cowles opened the game for the I-Cubs as he ripped a single into left field and scored Christian Franklin and Owen Caissie for an early 2-0 lead.
That didn’t last long as the Mets scored four more runs in the fourth and sixth innings as a double, groundout and a solo shot put them up 4-2.
Tommy Romero started the second game and dealt 5.0 innings, allowed two runs on two hits and struck out two in the process in a a no decision for him.
The Iowa Cubs will continue this six-game series against the Syracuse Mets on Thursday, May 29 as first pitch is slated for 6:38 p.m. CT and Kenta Maeda will take the mound for Iowa.
