JUPITER, FL – Great pitching powered the Palm Beach Cardinals (14-8) to a 3-1 win over the St. Lucie Mets (12-10) at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Tuesday night. Jason Savacool (W, 2-1) tied a career-high with seven strikeouts over five scoreless innings. Jonathan Mejia went 2-for-3 with a walk and Josh Kross went 1-for-3 with the game-winning, two-RBI double.

Palm Beach opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Mets starting pitcher Ethan Lanthier (L, 0-2) started the game by retiring each of the first nine Cardinal hitters, Jonathan Mejia started the rally with a leadoff single and Travis Honeyman followed with a walk. Josh Kross brought them both home on a two-RBI double down the right field line to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead after four innings.

St. Lucie got a run back in the top of the sixth inning. The Mets worked back-to-back walks to start the inning. Colin Houck then lifted a single into right field to score Yonathan Henriquez from second base. However, Cardinals relief pitcher Yordy Herrera (H, 1) got Daiverson Gutierrez to ground into an inning-ending double play to maintain a 2-1 lead for Palm Beach. The Mets loaded the bases with one out in the top of the seventh inning, but Herrera got another double play to escape the jam and keep the lead.

The Cardinals were able to get some insurance in the bottom of the eighth inning. With the bases loaded and one out, Sammy Hernandez hit a hard ground ball to shortstop Colin Houck, but the Mets were unable to get the double play as Kross scored to extend the Palm Beach lead to 3-1 after the eighth inning.

Cardinals relief pitcher Randel Clemente (S, 1) was perfect on the mound over the final two innings with three strikeouts and secured the 3-1 win for Palm Beach.

Palm Beach is back in action for game two of this three-game series with St. Lucie on Wednesday, April 30th at 6:30 p.m. looking to win their fifth straight series to start the 2025 season.
