RENO, Nev. – The Reno Aces (6-15, 43-53) return from a successful road trip to Albuquerque to host the Oklahoma City Comets (13-8, 59-37), the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, in a six-game series at Greater Nevada Field this week.

The two clubs previously squared off in early June in Oklahoma City, where they split the series with three wins apiece. Reno’s offense was sharp, slashing .285/.362/.433 with 19 extra-base hits and 33 RBI. Tristin English paced the BLC-Nine, going 9-for-19 (.474) with two doubles, a home run, and eight RBI.

The Comets enter the series riding momentum after sweeping the Sacramento River Cats in three games, outscoring them 24-9. They currently sit in second place in the Pacific Coast League’s second-half standings, trailing the Tacoma Rainiers (14-7) by one game.

Oklahoma City’s roster is headlined by 1B/OF Ryan Ward and super-utility man Nick Senzel.

Ward has arguably been the most dangerous hitter in Minor League Baseball this season, slashing .314/.400/.617 while leading MiLB in home runs (26), RBI (87), hits (114), extra-base hits (54), and total bases (224). The 27-year-old gave the Aces issues in their last meeting, going 9-for-26 (.346) with four homers and eight RBI. He’s currently in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak, batting .462 (18-for-39) with seven doubles, a triple, four home runs, and 15 RBI during that stretch. Slowing him down will be key for Reno.

Senzel, once a top prospect with the Cincinnati Reds, also produced in the last matchup, going 6-for-15 (.400) with a home run and eight RBI. He’s been red-hot in July, hitting .333/.403/.519 with four doubles, two homers, and five RBI. The 30-year-old has also been a consistent threat on the road, slashing .280 with six doubles, five home runs, and 23 RBI across 27 games.

Andy Weber stayed locked in at the plate during last week’s series in Albuquerque, going 7-for-13 (.538) with a double, a triple, and two RBI. Since June 20, the infielder has raised his season slash line from .214/.325/.300 to .310/.360/.480 over a 15-game tear.

The Aces open their six-game set against the Comets on Tuesday, July 22, at Greater Nevada Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. PST.
