RENO, Nev. – After settling for a series split last week against the Las Vegas Aviators, the Reno Aces (11-22, 48-60) will continue their road trip in Tacoma to take on the Rainiers (23-10, 61-47), the Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. The six-game set begins Tuesday, August 5 at 12:05 p.m. PST.

Tacoma enters the series atop the Pacific Coast League’s second-half standings and has been one of the hottest teams in the league, winning 14 of their last 18 games. The Rainiers are coming off a four-win series over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys and have claimed victory in each of their last five series.

The Rainiers nearly swept the Aces at Greater Nevada Field in early July, with Reno’s only win coming in its lone shutout of the season—led by Dylan Ray’s six scoreless innings. Tacoma has taken seven of the 12 matchups between the clubs this year. Despite the results, Reno’s offense has performed well against Rainiers pitching, slashing .303/.375/.507 with 14 home runs and 72 RBI in the season series.

Tacoma’s roster features INF Samad Taylor and RHP Casey Lawrence—two players who have caused problems for the Aces this season.

Taylor has been a thorn in Reno’s side, batting .333 (14-for-42) with three doubles, three home runs, 14 RBI, and 10 walks in 11 games against the Aces. He’s coming off a strong July, during which he slashed .327/.425/.495 with eight extra-base hits and 19 RBI in 23 games. Slowing him down will be a key focus for Reno’s pitching staff.

Lawrence delivered a dominant performance in his most recent start against the Aces, tossing seven scoreless innings without issuing a walk and striking out four. The veteran right-hander went 5-0 with a 3.71 ERA, 17 strikeouts, and just three walks across 34 innings in July. He recently tossed his best outing of the season, a complete game two-hitter against Round Rock on July 24, giving up just one run while striking out six.

For the Aces, AJ Vukovich remains one of the hottest hitters in the lineup. He went 11-for-24 (.458) last week with three doubles, two home runs, and six RBI. Over his last 20 games, Vukovich is slashing .387/.489/.653 with seven doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 15 RBI. In five games against Tacoma this season, he’s 9-for-18 (.500) with three doubles, a triple, and three RBI. He’ll enter the series riding a seven-game hitting streak.

Seth Brown has also enjoyed success against Tacoma this season. In nine total games—three with Las Vegas and six with Reno—he’s hit .342/.405/.711 with two doubles, four home runs, and seven RBI. Brown is in the middle of a strong stretch at the plate, going 9-for-22 (.409) with four doubles and six RBI over his last six games. He’ll look to stay hot against a tough Rainiers staff.

Following the conclusion of the series in Tacoma, the Aces will return to Greater Nevada Field to open a homestand against the El Paso Chihuahuas, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, wrapping up their two-week road trip through Las Vegas and Tacoma.
