Leon (Princeton) and Laweryson (Elizabethton) Receive POTW Honors
CHAPEL HILL, NC- The Appalachian League announced today that Minor League Baseball selected Princeton Rays catcher Luis Leon as Player of the Week and Elizabethton Twins right-handed pitcher Cody Laweryson as Pitcher of the Week. Both awards recognize these players' performances for games during the week of August 26-August 28.

Leon, 20, earned Player of the Week Honors after an impressive three-game strecth to close the regular season. He batted .429, with 2 HRs, and had 5 RBI. Leon signed with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2016. On August 30th, he was promoted to the Hudson Valley Renegades of the New York-Pennsylvania League.
Laweryson, 20, earned Pitcher of the Week honors after a dominant start against the Greeneville Reds. He pitched 6 innings, allowing zero runs on just 3 hits, and struck out 15 batters. Laweryson was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 14th Round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of the University of Maine at Orono.
