Arkansas Travelers pitcher Nathan Bannister has been named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for May 7-13 it was announced today by league President Tim Purpura. Bannister follows Johendí Jiminian who won the award last week. In two starts, Bannister posted a 1-1 record with a 1.80 ERA over 15 innings pitched. The highlight of the week was his complete game four-hit shutout of the Springfield Cardinals on Sunday afternoon in a 1-0 victory. He issued only one walk while striking out three in a 103 pitch performance. It was the first complete game of Bannister's pro career and the first individual shutout in the league this season. In his first outing of the week on Monday, he allowed three earned runs over six innings in a start against Northwest Arkansas.
For the season, Bannister owns a 3-2 record and 4.54 ERA in seven starts. His 39.2 innings pitched currently rank fourth in the league. A 24-year old native of Peoria, Arizona, he is in his first season with the Travelers and second pro season. He was drafted by the Mariners in the 28th round of the 2016 draft out of the University of Arizona.
