ASHEVILLE- You can't win pretty every game. Saturday night wasn't pretty but the Asheville Tourists could care less. It was the visiting Augusta GreenJackets who committed five errors. The Tourists said thank you and took home a 6-3 win.

After Augusta plated two runs in the top of the second, Asheville countered with a bases-loaded double by Daniel Jipping in the bottom half. The two-bagger plated a pair of runs; however, Augusta's shortstop inexplicably threw the ball into his own dugout while aiming for third base. The throwing error allowed the other two runners to score.

Asheville added one more in the next inning on Daniel Montano 's sacrifice fly to deep left field. Kyle Datres  trotted home on the play. Willie MacIver joined the RBI party with a single in the fifth. Willie's base hit plated John Cresto who reached earlier in the inning on a double.

Shelby Lackey started for the Tourists and worked four innings. He departed with a two-run lead and had an effective first start at McCormick Field. Jake Bird then pitched the next three innings to earn his first win of the season. Bird, Eric Hepple , and Alexander Martinez combined to throw five shutout frames out of the Tourists bullpen.

Despite the Asheville offense going only 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position, the Tourists were pretty much in control after the second inning. Cresto and MacIver both finished with two hits and Terrin Vavra reached base twice. Jacob Gonzalez of Augusta committed three of the GreenJackets five errors.

The series finale is scheduled for Sunday afternoon with the first pitch slated for 2:05pm.
