Fourth Lead the Charm as Tourists Win 7-6

KANNAPOLIS- The Asheville Tourists pulled out every trick in the book to earn their first victory in 2018 and it came by way of a 7-6 win in ten innings over the Kannapolis Intimidators. Asheville surrendered three leads during the game but hung on to their fourth lead to clinch the game.
Let's begin with the extra inning new rules where each team begins the frame with a runner at second base. The contest was tied 5-5 entering the tenth and Asheville plated two runs in their half; both on a Ramon Marcelino double.

Kannapolis immediately made it a one-run game when Craig Dedelow doubled on the first pitch in the bottom of the tenth. Tommy Doyle recorded back-to-back strikeouts for Asheville but the Intimidators used a walk and an infield single to load the bases. Lucas Gilbreath then induced a game-ending groundout off the bat of Tyler Frost .
Chad Spanberger helped Asheville overcome an early 2-0 deficit with a solo Home Run in the sixth inning. Spanberger's RBI single in the seventh once again gave Asheville a one-run lead; however, Kannapolis would tie the game in the eighth.
In the top of the ninth with the game tied 4-4, it was Spanberger again. He doubled into the left field corner and scored Ryan Vilade . Unfortunately, the Tourists were unable to nail it down in the bottom of the ninth. Frost's RBI single forced extras.
Will Gaddis started for the Tourists and pitched well. The right-hander worked 5.2 innings and surrendered two earned runs. Nate Harris , making his Tourists debut, showed flashes out of the bullpen with five strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work.
The Tourists will attempt to make it two wins in a row on Tuesday night with the first pitch coming at 6:35pm.
