Suns' Early Offense Sinks Tourists

July 13, 2016

HAGERSTOWN, MD-- The Asheville Tourists fell behind big early in Wednesday's game against the Hagerstown Suns and never could recover. The Suns led 9-1 after four innings and ended up with a 12-3 win over the Tourists.

Asheville was never really in the game. Hagerstown scored three runs in the bottom of the first; two of which came on a Grant DeBruin Home Run to centerfield. The Tourists did plate one in the top of the second when Max George doubled in Chris Keck.

Hagerstown responded with one in the bottom of the second, three more in the third, and another two in the fourth. Carlos Herrera made it 9-2 with an RBI groundout in the seventh, but Matthew Page's three-run double in the bottom of the seventh boosted the Suns' lead to 12-2. Asheville managed one in the top of the ninth but it was too little too late.

Ryan McCormick suffered the loss after being charged with nine runs in 3.2 innings. James Bourque picked up the win for the Suns; his first win of the season.

The Tourists did hit the ball hard throughout the game but had little luck finding gaps in the defense. Asheville finished with only five hits despite making solid contact. Walks continued to play a part in the series as Asheville issued eight free passes while Hagerstown walked seven Tourists.

The series is knotted up a one game apiece with the rubber match slated for 7:05pm Thursday night.
