Tourists' Troubles with Legends Continue

July 15, 2016

LEXINGTON, KY-- The Asheville Tourists dropped their series opener to the Lexington Legends by a final score of 8-5 on Friday night. Lexington has now beaten Asheville in five of the two teams' six meetings this season. In all five of the Legends wins the Tourists have allowed at least seven runs.

It started rough early once again for Asheville. Lexington scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. Asheville bounced back with two runs in the fourth. Yonathan Daza roped an RBI double to left and Hamlet Marte added a sacrifice fly.

After the Tourists failed to capitalize on a scoring chance in the fifth, the Legends plated three runs to go in front 6-2. Lexington added another in the sixth but Brian Mundell's two-run Home Run brought Asheville back to within striking distance at 7-4.

Both teams traded runs late and the Legends retired the side in the top of the ninth to secure the win. Jesus Tinoco surrendered 11 hits in 4.2 innings but was only charged with three earned runs. Asheville's defense committed three errors on the night.

Gerson Garabito picked up the win for the Legends; his first win in ten starts this season. The Tourists have not held the lead at any point in their last three games. Asheville will look to bounce back on Saturday night with a 6:35pm first pitch at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
