Gonzalez Jumpstarts the Tourists in Crucial Win

Gusto, McDonald, and DeLabio Hold Hot Rods to One Run

ASHEVILLE- Cristian Gonzalez was everywhere on Saturday night. The Asheville Tourists shortstop made plays in the field, threw out a runner at home plate, and clobbered a two-run Home Run in the Tourists 5-1 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Gonzalez had plenty of assistance.

Ryan Gusto worked five strong innings on the pitcher’s mound for his fourth win of the season. Gusto scattered three hits and allowed only one run which came in the third inning. Cole McDonald pitched three shutout frames behind Gusto and struck out four. Jacob DeLabio finished out the game with a scoreless ninth.

Gonzalez put the Tourists on top in the second inning with a two-run Home Run to right-centerfield. Asheville strung together back-to-back two-out hits in the third; a single by Zach Daniels and a double by JC Correa for their third run of the game.

In the fourth, Asheville added another run on three consecutive base hits by Gonzalez, Tim Borden II, and Luis Guerrero. Luis Santana provided some late insurance with an RBI double in the eighth to plate Joey Loperfido.

Daniels and Gonzalez both finished 3-for-4 while Borden II added two hits. Asheville outhit Bowling Green 12-6. The Tourists will play their final regular season home game on Sunday evening with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05pm ET.
