AUBURN, NY - After narrowly falling to the Crosscutters on Sunday evening at Falcon Park, the Doubledays came back in a big way. 14 hits against Williamsport drove Auburn to a blowout win against the the Crosscutters, scoring a baker's dozen in a 11-6 win.
The Doubledays played catch up early after the Crosscutters tagged starting pitcher Reid Schaller for a run in the first. Following four strong innings during his Auburn debut on August 1, the Crosscutters' bats managed to catch the Nationals' third-round draft pick off his game by driving in the game's first run with a single. Schaller got knocked around three innings later in the fourth when Williamsport put up a two-spot on the board for the scoreboard's first crooked number of the night.
On the other side of the mound, however, the Doubledays were also able to create some action against Williamsport starting pitcher Ethan Lindow. Auburn went tit for tat with the Crosscutters in the first by trying the game up with a run of their own in the first, compliments of a Moisés Sierra RBI groundout to score Cody Wilson. And to one-up Williamsport's two-spot in the fourth, the Doubledays attacked for three runs against against Lindow to take their first lead of the night, powered by a two-run single by Nic Perkins.
That lead wouldn't be given up, as the Doubledays tacked on seven additional runs over the next four innings. Kyle Marinconz surprised the Crosscutters defense with a bunt single to bring in a run in the fifth, and struck again to bring in the sixth run of the game for the Doubledays in the seventh. Ricardo Mendez tacked on another run in the inning by grounding into a force out to make it 7-3 Doubledays.
Brayan Gonzalez cut the Doubledays lead to three after singling in a run for the Crosscutters in the eighth, but a bases-loaded triple by Pablo O'Connor and a sacrifice fly by Carson Shaddy drove in four runs in the innings and padded more than enough insurance runs to win the game.
Pablo O'Connor was the star of the 14-hit attack for the Doubledays, chipping in a double and a three-run triple. He also tied a season high with four runs scored on a night where five Doubledays hitters had multiple hits.
The Doubledays will be back in action on Tuesday for the rubber game against the Crosscutters at 6:30 PM.
