The Doubledays bounced back in style against the Black Bears after a marathon matchup on Monday that they ended up losing 2-1 in extras. Auburn's bats came through with 14 hits Tuesday night, driving in eight runs in the Doubledays' 8-4 win over the Black Bears.
Kyle Marinconz went on a tear Tuesday evening just one day after being the Doubledays' offensive "hero" when he had two of Auburn's four hits and the team's lone RBI. Only this time, Marinconz delivered big time at the plate by knocking his first professional home run to deep right center to give the Doubledays a then 5-3 lead. He ended the night with three runs batted in - his first coming in the first inning on a groundout.
Pablo O'Connor and Nic Perkins also combined to bring in the Doubledays' other run scored in the fifth inning. O'Connor led off swinging on the first pitch to rip a triple, and Perkins brought him home after offering at a single pitch. Pablo ended the evening going 3-for-5 after hitting just .129 over his past seven games, while Nic Perkins ended the night with three RBI after batting in a pair on another single in the ninth inning.
Jacob Rhinesmith was the one who kicked things off during the Doubledays' three-run ninth. He drove in Cole Daily from second base while advancing Carson Shaddy - who batted leadoff for the Doubledays and had himself a two-hit night - to third. Both crossed home just two batter's later thanks to Perkins.
On the mound, Doubledays starting pitcher and Vanderbilt product Reid Schaller went five strong innings and allowed three runs en route to his third win of the season. He failed to throw a shutout inning after his offense gifted him with an early 1-0 lead in the first, and gave up another pair in the third.
Carson Teel took the mound for the game's final three innings after one scoreless inning by Joan Adon. A rough patch in the seventh inning brought the Black Bears back within one run after a wild pitch scored a runner from third. But thanks to the Doubledays' three-run ninth, Teel cruised to his first save of the season following a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth.
