GAME #75: Offensive Flurry Early Not Enough In 9-4 loss

North Augusta, SC - A flurry of offense in the first four innings eventually stopped, and the GreenJackets didn't have enough offense to take down the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Chicago Cubs) on Thursday night. The Jackets fell by a final score of 9-4.

The Pelicans have now won two of the first three in the six-game series. On back-to-back nights, the Pelicans have scored six unanswered runs to finish the game.

The Pelicans scratched three runs across in the first inning. Rainery Rodriguez gave up a bases clearing double to Matt Warkentin, and the Myrtle Beach lead was 3-0. The Augusta offense answered in the home-half. Willie Carter walked with the bases loaded, followed by an RBI single from Victor De Hoyos. It was 3-2 after the first inning.

The GreenJackets took the lead for the first time in the third inning. Bryson Horne belted his seventh home run of the season to tie the game at three. Brandon Parker gave the Jackets the lead with a clutch two out single scoring Carter. It was 4-3 after three innings.

But the Pelicans, who entered the night 11th in home runs in the Low-A East, hit two more in the fourth inning. Warkentin's solo blast tied the game at four. Then it was Ezequiel Pagan with a two-run home run. It was his first as a Pelican, and they led 6-4.

Lisandro Santos did not allow a run over 2.1 innings. Ben Thompson tossed two scoreless for Augusta.

The Pelicans added three more runs in the ninth though and held on 9-4.

NOTES:

• Bryson Horne hit his first home run since July 8th.
• Willie Carter finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
• Vaughn Grissom went 3-for-5 with a run scored. He is 15-for-36 (.416) since July 14th.
