ROME, GEORGIA: The Augusta GreenJackets (63-53, 27-21) defeated the Rome Braves (54-63, 24-24) in the first game of the doubleheader by a final score of 10-7. In the 2nd game, the Jackets fell 1-0 as Rome walked-it-off thanks to a GreenJackets error.

The GreenJackets still hold a one-game lead in the 2nd half standings over the Asheville Tourists. The Braves and Charleston RiverDogs are both three-games back of Augusta now.
GAME 1: In the 1st inning, Rome got on the board quickly. Justin Dean scored on a groundball, and the Braves grabbed a 1-0 lead. The Jackets offense got some help thanks to some sloppy defense from Rome. In the 3rd inning the Jackets scored three times. An error brought home one run, then it was RBI's from Diego Rincones and Frankie Tostado to make it 3-1 Jackets.
In the 4th inning, Ricardo Genoves picked up his first home run as a GreenJacket. A two-run home run gave Augusta a 5-1 lead. In the 5th inning, the Jackets had just one hit, but they scored five runs. Four walks aided the Augusta offense to take a 10-1 advantage. Rome would not go quietly though. They scored four in the home-half to make it 10-5. GreenJackets starting pitcher Kai-Wei Teng made his debut on the mound. He went four-innings, and he allowed five runs, while four were earned.
Rome responded with two more runs in the 7th inning to make it just a 10-7 Augusta lead. Sandro Cabrera would get the final four-outs on the bump for Augusta. Frankie Tostado ends his night with three hits, while Diego Rincones finishes with two hits. Genoves goes 2-4 with three RBI's.
Game #2: In the 2nd game, both starting pitchers came out looking sharp. It was five-innings for Ryan Shetter without allowing a run, while Seth Corry did the same. It was a career high 12 strikeouts for Corry as he surrendered just two hits. He has not allowed a run in his last 31.1 innings.
With the game still scoreless we went to extra-innings. The Jackets came-up empty in the 8th inning, and Rome won the game on a walk-off error. GreenJackets first-baseman Frankie Tostado threw to 3rd base on the sacrifice bunt effort from Braulio Vazquez, and the throw went down the line in left field. Ricardo Rodríguez scored, and Rome took the 1-0 win.
Tomorrow's Game: 2:00 PM @ Rome Braves (Atlanta Braves), State Mutual Stadium, Rome, Georgia
Pitching Matchup: (ROM) LHP Dilmer Mejia (6-2, 2.52 ERA) vs (AUG) RHP Keith Weisenberg (1-2, 4.19 ERA)
The series finale for the GreenJackets will feature Keith Weisenberg on a mound that he is quite familiar with. Weisenberg was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 14th round of the 2017 MLB Draft and played for Rome in 2018. He made four starts at State Mutual Stadium and had a 4.22 ERA over 21.1-innings. Weisenberg's last start for the Jackets came against the Hickory Crawdads (Texas Rangers) on August 3rd. He went five-innings and allowed two runs despite walking seven. Weisenberg has made 15 appearances with the GreenJackets this year and eight of them have been starts. After the Braves released him in May of 2019, the San Francisco Giants signed him to a minor league contract shortly after.
Dilmer Mejia makes the start for Rome on Sunday. Mejia has squared off with the GreenJackets twice so far in 2019. The first time came on May 21st when he went three-innings out of the bullpen and allowed only one-run. Mejia faced the Jackets again on June 13th and he went six-innings out of the bullpen without allowing a run. He started 2019 as a reliever but has now made nine starts this year. The 22-year old southpaw was signed by the Atlanta Braves in 2013 out of El Sauce, Nicaragua.
