Negret Home Run Bites Jackets

Columbia, S.C. - In a speedy two hour and 14 minute game, it was the Columbia Fireflies (Kansas City Royals) who prevailed on Tuesday night. A final of 4-3 at Segra Park opened the six game series. It's the first of 12 road games saw the Jackets collect only three hits. Juan Carlos Negret hit a two run shot in the sixth inning to give Columbia the lead for good.

Joey Estes earns the loss, his second of the year. Estes pitched six innings, a career high, and allowed four earned runs. In his previous six starts, Estes had not allowed more than one earned run.

The GreenJackets snatched a 1-0 lead in the first inning. A wild pitch from Columbia starting pitcher Rylan Kaufman allowed Brandon Parker to score from third base.

Columbia hit the first of two home runs in the third inning. Herard Gonzalez smacked a two-run blast. Columbia led 2-1.

In the sixth, the Jackets briefly took the lead on a Landon Stephens single. Willie Carter hit a sacrifice fly, and Augusta led 3-2.

Negret's two-run home run came off Estes in the home half of the sixth. Miguel Pena provided two scoreless innings out of the GreenJackets bullpen.

Chase Wallace retired the side for Columbia in the ninth inning for his first save this year.
