Rome blanks Jackets 7-0

ROME, GEORGIA: It was a barrage of runs for the Rome Braves (53-62, 23-23) early on, and they defeated the Augusta GreenJackets (62-52, 26-20) by a final score of 7-0. It's the 6^th time this season the Jackets have been shutout, and Augusta could only collect two hits.

In the 1^st inning, Rome got on the board in a hurry. Justin Dean led the game off with a triple for the Braves. Braden Shewmake grounded-out, but it brought home Dean and Rome took the 1-0 lead. Then, in the 2^nd inning, the Braves batted around. A triple for Drew Campbell brought home the first run of the inning to make it 2-0. Then a Jeremey Fernandez single made it 3-0 Rome.
The scoring continued in the 2^nd inning. Braden Shewmake single to extend the Rome lead to 4-0. Then, to cap off the scoring, a two RBI single for Shea Langeliers gave the Braves a 6-0 advantage. It was 10 hits after two-innings for Rome to take the lead. Oller settled down and ended up tossing five-innings, but he allowed six-runs. Oller has gone five-innings in all nine of his starts since the All-Star Break.
Rome tacked on another run in the 6^th inning. With the bases loaded, Shewmake was hit-by-a-pitch, and Rome had a 7-0 lead. Jacob Gonzalez collected the only two hits for the Jackets, as they fell by a final of 7-0.

Gonzalez had the only hits on the night for Augusta, and he has been swung the bat well so far in the month of August. In his last 10-games, Gonzalez has a .325 average.

Ricky Devito will make the start for the Braves in the 2^nd game of the series on Friday night. DeVito has yet to appear in a game this season for Rome after he was drafted in the 8^th round in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Seton Hall University. He started his professional career this year by spending time between the Gulf Coast League Braves and the Danville Braves in the Appalachian League. He only pitched one-inning in the GCL, but he tossed 19-innings with seven appearances and four starts for Danville. While there, he boasted a 3.32 ERA and he collected 23 strikeouts to only nine walks. He also held hitters to just a .194 batting average.
Next Homestand: Monday, August 12^th - Wednesday, August 14th vs Greenville Drive
The GreenJackets return home on Monday August 12^th for a three-game homestand with the Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox). It all starts with Bark-in-the-Park Night. Bring your four-legged friend out to the ballpark to cheer on the GreenJackets. It will also be Military Monday. Bring your Military ID to receive $2 off your ticket. On Tuesday, August 13^th, it will be "Tuesday Brew & Q" presented by Maurice's BBQ. Fans can get a $3 Domestic Draft Beer and a $3 BBQ Pork Slider. It will also be the first annual Trivia Night as well as First Responders Night. All First Responders will receive $2 off their ticket with a valid ID. The Homestand ends Wednesday August 14^th with Comfort Keepers Baseball Bingo.
