DANVILLE, VA.- The Burlington Royals were unfazed by an early deficit and rallied past the Danville Braves to take a 7-6 win Friday night at American Legion Post 325 Field at Dan Daniel Park in Danville. The win snapped a four game losing skid for the Royals, who improve to 4-11 on the season.

Trailing 5-1 heading to the top of the third, SS Jeison Guzman laced a one-out single for the Royals. CF Cal Jones reached on an error, and 1B Dennicher Carrasco stepped up with two on and two out. Carrasco promptly launched his fourth home run of the season, a mammoth shot estimated at 439 feet, to trim the lead down to a single run at 5-4.

An inning later, DH Jesus Atencio and 3B Julio Gonzalez each singled with one out, and Guzman walked with two away to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Atencio to score and tie the game, while Gonzalez put the Royals ahead by scoring on a throwing error on the same play.

After a shaky start, LHP J.C. Cloney settled in for the Royals. He allowed five Danville runs in a three-run first and two-run second, including an RBI double from SS Derian Cruz in the second, but blanked the Braves in his final three innings of work. Cloney did not walk a batter and struck out three in earning his first professional win.

LHP Jordan Floyd followed Cloney and kept the Braves off the board in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings. Floyd also did not walk a batter, and struck out one.

Burlington added insurance in the seventh, as Jones hit a leadoff single and advanced to second on a walk to RF Reed Rohlman. A single from C Sebastian Rivero loaded the bases, and a passed ball allowed Jones to score. The Jones and Rohlman duo had previously accounted for the Royals' first run, as a Jones single and Rohlman RBI double gave the Royals a 1-0 lead in the first.

Floyd took the mound with the Royals up 7-5 heading to the ninth, but a pair of singles to begin the frame chased him from the game. RHP Yerelmy Garcia entered and walked Cruz, but immediately followed by inducing an out on a sacrifice fly. With men at the corners and one out, Garcia got 1B Drew Lugbauer to bounce into a 4-6-3 game ending double play.

Jones and Rivero had two hits each for the Royals in the win, which moved Burlington to 4-3 in road games in 2017.
