Royals Keep Rolling in Elizabethton

Tillo earns first pro win in 4-1 road victory

ELIZABETHTON, TENN.- The Burlington Royals remained hot on Thursday night, taking a 4-1 road win over the West division's first place Elizabethton Twins in the opener of the clubs' three-game series.


Burlington (19-22) struck first with two runs in the top of the second. 3B Dennicher Carrasco drew a one-out walk, and advanced to third on a single from SS Jeison Guzman . C Sebastian Rivero kept the line moving with a single of his own, scoring Carrasco and pushing Guzman to third base. DH Jose Marquez drove in the inning's second run on a groundout that allowed Guzman to score.


Another run came home in the third. CF Michael Gigliotti walked with one away, stole second and scored on an RBI single from RF Seuly Matias .


Meanwhile, LHP Daniel Tillo was dominant for Burlington. Over five innings, he scattered three hits and a walk, striking out two and keeping the Twins off the scoreboard. The effort was good enough to earn his first win of his professional career.


The offense added one more run in the seventh. Guzman hit a leadoff single, stole second and advanced to third on an error. He would score on a double by 2B Oliver Nunez .


Elizabethton (26-15) scored their only run of the game, an unearned run against LHP Jordan Floyd . 1B Kolton Kendrick drew a leadoff walk, and LF Matt Albanese singled. A groundout put Kendrick and third, and he would score on an error.


RHP Yerelmy Garcia worked a scoreless eighth and ninth inning for the Royals to preserve the win.


Guzman was 2-for-3 in the win, the lone Royal with multiple hits.


The series will continue on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at O'Brien Field in Elizabethton. RHP Carlos Hernandez (1-2, 4.58) will start for Burlington against Elizabethton RHP Brusdar Graterol (0-0, 4.50). The game can be heard at


Burlington will return home on Wednesday, August 9 to face the Pulaski Yankees at 7:00 p.m. It will be Reader Appreciation Night!
