The New Orleans Baby Cakes have won the Golden Bobblehead Award for Minor League Baseball's best community promotion.
The award was presented at the MiLB Promotional Seminar in Greeneville, South Carolina.
"Baby Cake Nation" gives all babies born in the state of Louisiana in 2017 lifetime passes to 'Cakes games. One of the babies will be the recipient of a full, four-year tuition to the Louisiana university of their choosing when they turn 18.
"We are thrilled to be given this recognition," said Rachel Whitley, Baby Cakes director of community relations. "The response we have received from across the state has been overwhelming, creating a whole new generation of baseball fans in Louisiana."
As of October 1, 2,808 babies have been registered in "Baby Cake Nation," with participation from 25 hospitals throughout the state. Newborns and their families participated in events such as on-field parades and "diaper dashes" throughout the season, and more than 250 pounds of baby food and 8,000 diapers were collected for local pantries to be distributed to those in need.
Registration remains open to newborns for the remainder of 2017. For more information on how to register, call the Baby Cakes at (504) 734-5155 or visit www.cakesbaseball.com.
