Marlins acquire Bogusevic from Cubs

Former Tulane star split 2013 between Chicago and Iowa
December 12, 2013

The Miami Marlins acquired outfielder Brian Bogusevic in a trade with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, sending outfielder Justin Ruggiano to Chicago.

The former Tulane standout signed a minor league contract with the Cubs prior to the 2013 season and entered June with a Pacific Coast League-leading .367 batting average for Iowa, earning a midseason promotion to Chicago, where he batted .273 with six home runs and 16 RBI in 47 games.

Bogusevic was a First Team All-American at Tulane in 2005, when he helped the Green Wave to the best record in school history and a berth in the College World Series by going 13-3 with a 3.25 ERA in 19 starts while hitting .325. He was then selected by the Houston Astros with the 24th overall selection in the 2005 draft.

The New Orleans Zephyrs open the 2014 season on Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. Ticket packages are on sale now by calling the Zephyrs at (504) 734-5155.
