Offseason work has stadium ready for 2014

LSED improvements focused on lighting, concourse and scoreboard
March 5, 2014

With Opening Day of the 2014 baseball season four weeks away, the New Orleans Zephyrs and Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District (LSED) have finished the latest offseason improvements on Zephyr Field, entering its 18th year as the home of Triple-A baseball in the Crescent City.

Work has concluded on enhancements to the stadium's concourses, electrical systems, field lighting and scoreboard.

"The LSED is committed to Zephyr Field and professional baseball in Jefferson Parish," said LSED Chairman of the Board Ron Forman. "These recently completed projects, along with those planned for the future, will ensure that the Zephyrs' home venue will be enjoyed by baseball fans for years to come. We are excited about what the future has in store for the facility."

The concourse has been re-surfaced to make it weather-resistant, resulting in less slippery conditions during rainy weather. Fans will also notice improved lighting on the concourse and entrance ramps, part of a re-working of the electrical system which also includes the front office and clubhouses to make the facility more energy efficient.

Additionally, the stadium's lights will feature new lamps, achieving the highest minor league standards for infield and outfield lighting. And one year after the installation of a larger video board, the scoreboard will include a new LED linescore.

"The ballpark is in better shape today than it was 10 years ago," said Zephyrs General Manager Mike Schline. "The Zephyrs and LSED have worked diligently to make the stadium the best it can be, and this is just the latest in a series of improvements concentrated on enriching the experience of the fans."

The Zephyrs open the 2014 season on Thursday, April 3 at 7:00 p.m. against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. For ticket information, contact the Zephyrs box office at (504) 734-5155.
