Z's make most of chances in win

The New Orleans Zephyrs made the most of their opportunities on Friday night at Greer Stadium, scoring six runs on only five hits in a 6-3 win over the Nashville Sounds.

New Orleans took advantage of two Nashville errors and eight walks to win despite being out-hit 13-5. The Zephyrs inched back to within a game of the .500 mark with the victory.

The Z's sent nine batters to the plate in the third inning and scored four times on two hits. Donovan Solano and Kevin Kouzmanoff each drove in a run as the Zephyrs erased an early 2-0 deficit.

The Zephyrs managed to score a run in the fifth without a hit. Gorkys Hernandez walked, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out before scoring on a fly ball by Kouzmanoff, extending the lead to 5-2.

Jake Smolinski led off the sixth inning with his fourth home run of the season, and the Zephyrs wiggled out of trouble in the bottom of the frame. Z's starter Matt Neil loaded the bases with one out, but Zach Phillips came on to induce an inning-ending double play from Ozzie Chavez.

The Sounds rallied in the ninth inning, scoring a run on three hits against Jonathan Albaladejo before Chris Hatcher came in and struck out Blake Davis for his 21st save, the most in all of Minor League Baseball.

Neil (2-2) struck out seven batters for the second consecutive start and scattered 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings to pick up the win.

Chris Narveson (0-2), pitching on a Major League rehab assignment, took the loss. He pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed five runs - three earned - on three hits and walked five.
