Barons Blank Lookouts Behind Beck's Gem

White Sox No. 9 Prospect Chris Beck tosses 7.0 scoreless innings in 2-0 win over Chattanooga
May 27, 2014

The Birmingham Barons rode the bat of Keenyn Walker and the arm of Chris Beck to a 2-0 shutout win against the Chattanooga Lookouts Tuesday night in front of 4,989 fans at Regions Field.

Keenyn Walker broke a 5th inning scoreless tie with an opposite field solo home run, his second long ball of the season. Walker finished with a two hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with his 10th steal of the season.

Walker's homer was all starter Chris Beck (3-6, 3.79) needed as he allowed just four hits and struck out six over 7.0 dominant shutout innings.

Rangel Ravelo tacked on a key insurance run in the 6th, driving in Dan Wagner with an RBI single to give the Barons a 2-0 lead.

The Lookouts made things interesting in the 8th, putting runners at second and third base against reliever Kevin Vance, but Vance was able to escape the jam by striking out Scott Schebler to end the inning. Vance struck out four Lookouts batters over 2.0 scoreless innings to pick up his second save of the season.

The shutout was the 4th for the Barons this season as they improved to 21-31 while Chattanooga fell to 20-32. The Barons will look to start a winning streak tomorrow night as RHP Bryan Blough (0-0, 0.00) makes his second appearance and first career start at the Double-A level against LHP Chris Reed (3-3, 2.93). First pitch is schedule for 7:05 PM CDT.
