Bassitt Leads Barons To Series Win Over Lookouts

Chris Bassitt improves to 3-0 after striking out nine over 7.0 innings against Chattanooga

Chris Bassitt's dominant month continued Wednesday night in a 4-1 Barons win over the Chattanooga Lookouts in front of 3,793 fans at Regions Field.

After Darnell Sweeney put the Lookouts ahead 1-0 with a leadoff solo home run against Bassitt (3-0, 0.87), the Barons responded immediately in the bottom half of the frame tying the game at 1-1 on an RBI single by Dan Black.

Black struck again two innings later, scoring Trayce Thompson with a base hit putting the Barons ahead 2-1 in the third inning. He finished 2-for-4 on the night with two runs batted in.

Chris Curley provided the rest of the offense, extending the lead to 3-1 in the fifth with an RBI single and following that with another RBI base hit in the seventh extending the lead to 4-1. Curley finished 2-for-4 with two RBI on the night and

The three run cushion was more than enough for Bassitt who settled in after a rocky first inning allowing just two hits the rest of the way. On the night he allowed one run on four hits while striking out nine over 7.0 IP while improving to 6-1 in eight career starts at Regions Field.

With the win the Barons improved to 58-71 on the season and 29-30 in the second half while Chattanooga fell to 53-74 on the year and 27-30 in the second half.

The Barons will look to win their fourth game of the series tomorrow as RHP Myles Jaye (4-10, 5.61) takes the hill against RHP Jeremy Kehrt (0-0, 1.50) First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
