Bassitt Named Southern League Pitcher of the Week

Barons starter strikes out a career-high 11 in shutout win over the Stars
August 11, 2014

The Birmingham Barons and the Southern League have announced that RHP Chris Bassitt has been named the Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 4-10.

Bassitt, 25, went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one start last week against the Huntsville Stars on August 9. In the game, he allowed just three hits and struck out a career-high 11 over 6.0 shutout innings in a 5-0 Barons win. The 11 strikeouts were the most by a Barons starter since Jack Egbert whiffed 11 against the Montgomery Biscuits on April 24, 2007.

A native of Curtice, OH, Bassitt suffered a broken hand prior to the start of the 2014 season and was on the disabled list for much of the year. He made his 2014 debut on July 29 and has made three starts with the Barons so far this season. Bassitt was a critical part of the Barons' 2013 championship winning team going 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA (1 ER/12.2 IP) in two postseason starts.
