BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Chattanooga Lookouts used three sacrifice flies to score seven runs on just seven hits to retire the Barons on Friday night in game two of the five game set.
Birmingham starter Jordan Stephens lasted just 3.2 inning as the righty allowed five runs on just three hits as he walked four and struck out five Lookout Batters in his fifth loss of the season.
With the game scoreless until the top of the third inning, the visiting Lookouts would get on the board first. Nick Gordon reached on a single by Barons first baseman Nick Basto and was moved to third on Edgar Corcino 's 16th double of the season. LaMonte Wade , in his first game back off the DL, knocked a sacrifice fly to center field and the score read 2-0 for the visitors after 3.
The Lookouts added three more runs in the very next frame. After T.J. White reached on a wild pitch after striking out to start the inning followed by a walk and single, Brian Navarreto got the scoring started on a sacrifice fly to center field. Nick Gordon brought the second run of the inning in to score on a single to right field. After an intentional walk, Jonathan Rodriguez walked with the bases loaded before Kyle Kubat came in to get the Barons out of the jam and after the frame it was 5-0 Chattanooga.
After Tito Polo and Nick Basto singled with an out in the sixth inning, Mason Robbins scored polo from second on a close play at the plate and the Barons were on the board with the score reading 5-1 after six.
Birmingham would tack on another run in the seventh inning on Alfredo Gonzalez 's fourth home run of the campaign, a towering shot to left field that brought the Barons to within three runs.
After two singles and a Jonathan Rodriguez walk in the eighth, Andy Wilkins brought in Nick Gordon and LaMonte Wade from on an RBI single to bring the score to 7-2, which would hold true until the end of the game.
The Barons and the Lookouts will continue their five game set tomorrow night at Regions Field, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT. Right-hander Michael Kopech will take the ball for the Barons, while fellow righty Dereck Rodriguez will be on the mound for Chattanooga.
