Lookouts Walk-Off On Schebler's Blast

Dan Black homers and finishes 2-for-4 in loss to Chattanooga
August 3, 2014

The Birmingham dropped their third game in a row to the Chattanooga Lookouts, falling by a score of 4-3 in 11 innings in front of 2,057 fans at AT&T Park.

Scott Schebler provided all four runs in the game for the Lookouts starting with a two-run blast against starter Chris Bassitt in the third inning, giving the Lookouts a 2-0 lead. The home run was the lone blemish against Bassitt who allowed three hits and struck out four over 6.0 IP.

The Barons clawed back to tie the game with single runs in the sixth and eighth innings starting with Dan Black's solo home run in the sixth against Lookouts starter Chris Reed. Reed was dominant for most of the afternoon allowing just one run on five hits over 7.0 IP. The tying run would come in the eighth on an RBI groundout by Christian Marrero against reliever Juan Gonzalez.

The game would remain deadlocked into extra innings with both team's trading zeroes in the ninth and tenth innings. The Barons took their first lead of the game in the 11th on a Jeremy Farrell RBI single which scored Dan Black for a 3-2 advantage.

Reliever Nestor Molina (6-4, 4.68) provided two key innings of scoreless relief but couldn't get the final out in the 11th as Schebler struck against for his second two-run homer of the afternoon giving the Lookouts a 4-3 walk-off win.

With the loss, the Barons fell to 22-21 in the second half and 51-62 overall while Chattanooga improved to 17-25 in the second half and 43-69 overall.
