Semien and Snodgress Sweep Player of the Week Honors

Semien bats .583 and Snodgress wins twice while throwing 14.1 scoreless innings during period from July 22-28

The Birmingham Barons and the Southern League have announced that INF Marcus Semien has been named Player of the Week and LHP Scott Snodgress has been named Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 22-28.

Semien, 22, enjoyed a tremendous week at the plate hitting .583 (14-for-24) with four home runs, a triple, three doubles, 10 runs scored, 11 RBI and 12 walks. On the season, Semien is hitting .288 (111-for-385) with a team-best 14 home runs, 88 runs scored and 46 RBI. He ranks among the league-leaders in multiple categories including runs, walks (82) total bases (183) and on-base percentage (.417) while ranking second in hits and seventh in batting average.

Semien, a 2013 Southern League All-Star, was drafted by the White Sox in the sixth round of the June 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of California-Berkley. He entered the 2013 season rated by Baseball America as the No. 14 Prospect in the White Sox Organization and in a recent re-ranking of the top prospects in the organization by MLB.com was ranked as their No. 9 prospect in the organization.

Snodgress, 23, went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/14.1 IP) in two starts last week, allowing just five total hits and striking out seven. In his first start of the week on the 22nd, Snodgress carried a no-hitter through 8.1 IP in a shutout win over the Chattanooga Lookouts. In his second appearance, he tossed 6.0 scoreless innings while allowing just four hits in a win over the Mobile BayBears.

Snodgress, a fifth round selection in the June 2011 First Year Player draft out of Stanford, leads the Southern League and is tied for fourth in all of Minor League Baseball with 11 wins this season. On the year, he's compiled a record of 11-7 with a 3.88 ERA (50 ER/116.0 IP) in 20 starts.

The Pitcher of the Week award is the third for a Barons' hurler this season and second in a row after Spencer Arroyo won for the week of July 15-21. Nick McCully also was named Pitcher of the Week for the period of May 20-26. The Player of the Week award is the second for the Barons this season with Trayce Thompson winning for the period of June 10-16.
