The loss marks back-to-back shutouts by the Bats offense. This is the second time this season, April 10 and 11 versus Toledo, that the Bats have been shutout in consecutive games.
Right-hander Jackson Stephens (5-5, 4.84) matched his Triple-A high in strikeouts with seven over four and one-third innings pitched. He allowed five runs on nine hits with one walk and took the loss.
Right-hander Alejandro Chacin replaced Stephens in the fifth inning with two runners on and one out and escaped the jam. He has now stranded five of eight inherited runners this season. He finished with one and two-thirds innings pitched and struck out two. He has allowed just one earned run in his last 24 and one-third innings dating back to June 1.
The Bats offense couldn't get going against Indianapolis starter Tyler Glasnow (4-0, 1.49). After a double by Darnell Sweeney to begin the game, Louisville could only muster up two more hits against the right-hander. He finished with seven innings and did not allow a run and struck out six.
The Bats offense struck out 10 batters on Friday, the 35th time this season the Bats pitching staff has struck out 10 or more in a game. The 35 such games are the most since at least the 2005 season.
The Bats and Indians will continue the four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. at Victory Field. Right-hander Tyler Mahle (0-3, 5.02) will start for the Bats and righty Clay Holmes (7-3, 3.75) will get the ball for Indianapolis.
