Toledo, OH - A three-run blast from Dominic Ficociello was all the Mud Hens needed as they shutout the Bats 3-0 on Sunday night at Fifth Third Field.
The Bats only mustered up five hits, two of them from Hernan Iribarren in the shutout loss. This is the 10th time this season that the Bats have been shutout after being shutout a franchise-worst 16 times a season ago.
Right-hander Jackson Stephens tossed his team-leading 12th quality start striking out six over seven innings while only allowing the three runs on the home run. He threw 108 pitches, 67 for strikes. His season-high was 110 pitches on May 15 at Toledo. He has now lost four decisions in a row dating back to July 30 and is 7-9 on the season.
Toledo starter Arte Lewicki moved to 5-0 earning the win as he didn't allow a run in six and one-third innings and struck out seven.
The Bats loaded the bases with one out in the 7th but grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat. Mud Hens' closer Edward Mujica earned his 18th save with a perfect ninth ining.
The Bats return home tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m., gated will open at 4:30 p.m. Lefty Cody Reed (4-9, 4.77) will start game one for the Bats. The Indians are still TBA.
