The Bats lose to Buffalo, 8-1

BUFFALO, N.Y..- The Bats took a hard loss against the Buffalo Bisons 8-1 on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Field. The Red's third best prospect Amir Garrett worked five and two-thirds innings for his Triple-A debut with Louisville.

Second baseman Hernan Iribarren collected his eighth RBI of the season and gave the Bats a 1-0 lead after he singled to right field allowing first baseman Brandon Allen to score in the top of the fourth to break the scoreless tie.

Louisville held the lead until Buffalo scored seven runs during the bottom of the sixth and an additional run in the bottom of the seventh, bringing the score to 8-1. The Bats were unable to rally.

The win went to Buffalo starter, righty Chris Leroux (5-4, 3.31) after he pitched six innings, gave up four hits, one run and two walks, and threw six strikeouts.

Lefty Amir Garrett (0-1, 4.76) pitched five and two-thirds innings, gave up one hit, three runs and a season-high six walks, and threw four strikeouts in his Triple-A debut with the Bats. He didn't allow a hit through four innings, but walked the bases loaded in the sixth inning to allow the Bisons rally to begin.

Relief pitcher Chad Rogers was brought into the bottom of the sixth where he gave up four hits, four runs and one walk after he pitched to five batters. Drew Hayes came in to end the decisive sixth inning, pitching one and one-third innings, giving up three hits and one run.

The four earned runs allowed by Rogers matched the total number of runs the bullpen had allowed over the past 13 games and 47 and one-third innings.

The Bats end the four-game series against Buffalo tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. with righty Daniel Wright (1-1, 4.76) expected to face righty Drew Hutchinson (4-3, 2.87) for the Bisons.
