Votto homers as Bats fall to Clippers, 5-1

September 2, 2012
Columbus, OH - Joey Votto homered in his first game with Louisville on a rehab stint, but the Bats couldn't muster much offense off of Columbus starter Matt Packer and fell, 5-1.

The story of the game was undoubtedly Votto, who returned to Louisville for the first time since 2007. He finished the game 1-for-3 with a home run in the fourth inning.

While much of the attention surrounded Votto, Matt Packer (1-4, 5.50) stole the show. The Columbus lefty pitched eight strong innings in the victory, allowing just five hits and the lone Votto run. He struck out nine and walked one.

Travis Webb (2-6, 4.81) took the loss in the spot start. He allowed two runs in 3.1 innings.

Offensively, the Clippers were led by Gregorio Petit, who continued to torment the Bats by going 3-for-5. Vinny Rottino also delivered a two-run shot.

The Bats mustered just five hits in the loss.

Louisville returns home for the final two games of the season Sunday night. They will take on the Indianapolis Indians at 7:05 p.m. on Sunday and then close the season at 1:05 p.m. on Monday. Both games will feature $1 hot dogs and Pepsi products as part of the Fan Appreciation promotion.
